What is iLostMy.com about?
iLostmy.com is a lost and found service that enables finders of lost items to arrange their safe return to the rightful owners.

How does this service work?
The iLostMy.com label is unique to your item. Our secure database enables the automated system to contact you directly as soon as your item is reported as found. If desired, the iLostMy.com website will enable you to recover your property whilst remaining anonymous.

Why is this service required?
In modern society we carry an increasing number of portable valuables - from mobile phones and mp3 players to digital cameras and laptops. Most items we own are unidentifiable. Because we’re busy and travel more extensively things inevitably get lost. Many of these items are very expensive to replace and contain information such as pictures, music, personal and corporate information - data that can be time consuming and costly to recreate or replace. There is also the sentimental value of certain items that are impossible to replace. With an iLostmy.com label the finder can return your item/s with very little effort, which increases the likelihood of you getting it back – fast!

Are people really that honest?
GfK NOP research and practice has shown that 76% of people are willing to return a found item, especially if it is relatively hassle and cost free. The contact number on the label is "LoCall" (i.e.the cost of a local call) and accessible to any phone. All finders of iLostMy.com tagged items receive a free annual subscription and label pack as a reward.

On what kind of items can I put iLostMy.com tags?
Anything of value that you carry and could potentially lose. The iLostMy.com label uses a 3M adhesive that will stick securely to any dry, dust-free surface. It works on all electronic goods and sports equipment, luggage and just about any other item, including umbrellas and kids’ toys, etc.. the list is endless.

Where can I get iLostMy.com tags?
You can buy iLostMy.com tags from our website , or via our sales channel partners .

What do I do if I want more labels?
You can purchase more labels from our shop or via our sales channel partners. "Existing Customer Packs" also contain 10 Labels. You are not limited to the number of labels you can "activate" to your account and it will not increase your subscription fee.

What do I do next?
Once you have obtained a "NEW CUSTOMER PACK" the first step is to register your personal details, at the end of which you can activate your "New Customer Pack". The system will lead you through the process. Each pack has ten labels. We would recommend that you protect your valuable items first.

What happens if I lose something?
You can flag the item as lost from the iLostMy.com website via your account. Go to the site and click lost it which will take you to the right page in your account via a log-on. We will contact you when the item is reported as found. You will receive a text, email and a call from our call centre to your designated phone number.

Why should I use iLostMy.com tags instead of writing my name on my assets?
The iLostMy.com label does not reveal any information that could be used against you by would-be criminals. For example, a conventional name and address tag on luggage could alert potential thieves to the fact that you are away. Using iLostMy.com makes it easy for finders to return lost items. iLostMy.com labels are tough and stick well to dry, dust free surfaces. Our UK call centre is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, enabling us to return your lost property quickly and efficiently. To this end, we’ll always contact you by every means possible - text, email, telephone and, if all else fails, by letter.

How does iLostMy.com protect my privacy?
If either party wishes to remain anonymous, iLostMy.com will mediate the return of iLostMy.com tagged items. If, however, both parties wish to contact each other directly, we can pass on a contact number and name. For information on our security measures please see our Privacy Policy .

How much does it cost to have my item returned?

The cost of recovery depends on which option is chosen for the return of an item:

You can collect it yourself, or arrange to have it collected, provided the finder is willing to be contacted.

Alternatively, it can be returned to you by following the recovery process and arranging for our courier service to collect the item. Price will vary, depending on the type of service as outline below.

Anywhere in the UK and Ireland, iLostMy.com can arrange the weekday collection and return of your items. The cost covers the complete facilitation of the service from the website which is accessible from your account pages.

The services available are:

SWAP-IT-BOX: A strong secure box used for portable electronic goods such as mobile phones, PDA’s, games consoles, camera’s and is big enough to take a large laptop.

STANDARD: A service in which the finder is asked to package the item for collection; this service can be used for any item up to 31KG in weight, less then 2.7m girth, 2.0m in length and less than 0.5m ³ .

The difference is cost depends on the type of service and the TIME the owner wants it delivered.

If the owner and the finder are happy to make their own arrangements, iLostMy.com charges the owner a nominal fee of £3.45 if the finder reported it via the call centre; otherwise the service is free of charge if reported through the website.



How do i pack an item for collection?
Recovery Procedure The Swap-It Box
This process requires you to hand the unpackaged item(s) to the Parceline driver who will store it in a secure Swap-It-Box for delivery to the owner.

The dimensions: L = 400mm     W = 350mm     H = 150mm

Recovery Procedure Standard Recovery
If the item will NOT fit into a Swap-It-Box then you must use the Standard Recovery Process. This process requires you to wrap the item securely before handling it to the Parceline driver.

We recommend the following simple packaging guidelines to ensure the contents are delivered safely, on time and undamaged.

Packaging hints and tips

  • Where purpose-built containers are available they should always be used.
  • If a purpose-built container is not available, approximately 3–9cm of cushioned packing should be placed completely around every side of the item.
  • Individual items in the same container should be separated by fixed packing.
  • Packing must be tightly pressed into position and present a firm buffer protecting all edges and corners.
  • All space within the container must be filled so that there is no danger of the container collapsing under external pressure. It is better to use too much packing than too little.
  • If you are recycling containers, care must be taken to ensure that they have sufficient strength and rigidity for the size and weight of the item to be packed.
  • Check that there are no holes, tears, rips or corner dents and all flaps are intact.
  • Remove all other labels to prevent delivery to the wrong destination. It is particularly important to remove or deface all barcodes that are not part of the current transport details.
  • Make sure that all flaps are secured. This is particularly important with re-cycled containers, which will probably need more attention.
  • Strapping and banding are not recommended for soft containers, which may distort in transit due to movement or pressure. If it is used, ensure that it does not obscure any of the labels or barcodes. No metal banding is allowed.

What happens if I sell a registered item?
iLostMy.com currently does not permit items to be transferred. Please remove the label and delete the item from your account.

What happens if any of my personal details change?
If any of your personal details change, log in to your account and follow the links to change your email address, login name, address, password, etc…

What is the reward for return?
When the found item has been confirmed as returned to the owner, iLostMy.com will send the finder a FREE iLostMy.com gift pack, at no cost to the owner of the returned item.

I've just found something with an iLostMy.com tag. What do I do now?
Thank you... iLostMy.com has made it easy for finders to return items. You can either ring the number on the label: 0845 609 606, or use this website , accessible from the iLostMy.com home page.

For how long will iLostMy.com security tags protect my assets?
The label is designed to be very robust, and will continue to work for as long as your subscriptions are maintained. For guidance on placing a label on an item click here . The general rule is to put it somewhere visible but not in a place that receives excessive wear.

If I’ve found an item can I ring at any time of day?
Yes! We work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help get lost items back to their rightful owners. However, out of courtesy we don't contact owners to advise them their property has been recovered after 10pm or before 8am.

Some letters and numbers look the same. How can I tell them apart?
To avoid confusion, the letters I and O and the numbers 1 and 0 are NOT used on our labels, as they look similar.

How should I apply the tags?
The label should be applied to a clean, dust free and dry surface. Avoiding curved or sharp surfaces where possible. Maximum adhesion is achieved after 72 hours. For guidance please click here .

How should I apply the tags?
The system works in exactly the same way. The finder can contact us through our website address displayed on the tag or via our call centre and we will assist you in the return of your lost item. How do I change my account information?
Your account information can be changed by going to ‘My Account’. You will then be asked for a username and password before being allowed access to your account.

How can I buy tags online?
You can purchase iLostMy.com security tags here on our website by going to the shop via our Homepage. From there you will be guided through the process.

What methods of payment do you accept?
All payments through iLostMy.com go through our shopping basket, RomanCart and card handling is processed through PAYPAL. All major credit and debit cards are accepted.

Do I have to reveal my identity?
The iLostMy.com system enables lost items to be returned without revealing the identity of the owner or the finder (unless desired).

How easy is it for the finder of my lost item to contact me?
Unlike other services, iLostMy.com provides a call centre. This results in less effort being required of the finder, and greatly increases the likelihood of your lost item being returned. Additionally, whoever finds your lost item can make immediate contact with iLostMy.com and obtain help in returning your item. If a finder prefers not to phone, they can contact us via our website.

Can't I rely on the police to return my lost item?
Understandably, most people’s first impulse is to hand a found item to the police.

But not only is this inconvenient for the finder, it also entails your lost item being left at the police station closest to the finder’s home, which in many cases could reduce the likelihood of you getting it back, especially if it’s unclear who the item belongs to. And as their first responsibility is to fight crime, tracing owners of lost property is not high on the list of police priorities.

Can't I rely on lost property offices to return my lost item?
The fact is most lost property is unidentifiable. This means that if a finder hands your lost item to a lost property office, the chances are it will languish there indefinitely.

Lost property offices are usually run during office hours, so even if you can be certain where your lost item is being held, it will normally mean taking time off work to get there. Businesses inevitably treat lost property as an overhead, so lost property offices are run with minimum effort and expense, assuming they exist at all!
